Brief Introduction

The mixed grass pellet press—also known as a weed or forage pellet press—is a biomass pelletizing unit specifically designed for processing mixed weeds and various types of fresh forage. It compresses pulverized raw materials (such as mixed grasses, weeds, and crop stalks) into high-density, cylindrical pellets. The process requires no chemical binders, relying instead on the high-temperature plasticization of the material's natural lignin and fibers to form the pellets. By transforming loose, hard-to-store forage into compact pellets that are easy to store, transport, and feed, this press serves as a key piece of equipment for rural livestock farming and the resource utilization of forage materials. Available in a wide range of specifications—from small home-use models to complete industrial production lines—the press offers adjustable pellet diameters (4–12 mm) to meet the specific feeding needs of livestock (such as cattle, sheep, and rabbits) and the requirements for biomass fuel production.

Working Principle

After undergoing pretreatment—specifically shredding and moisture adjustment—the mixed green grass feedstock is fed into the pellet mill's hopper. Rotating rollers compress the material, forcing it into the apertures of the ring die. The friction generated during compression raises the temperature, causing the lignin within the grass to soften and act as a natural binder, allowing the material to solidify and form within the die holes. Under continuous pressure, the finished pellets are extruded from the die and cut to a uniform length; they then undergo cooling and screening to remove fines, resulting in the final mixed green grass pellets. The entire pelletizing process relies on physical compression and forming without the addition of adhesives, enabling stable production provided the feedstock moisture content is maintained within an optimal range.
