Brief Introduction
The Miscanthus pellet mill is a type of ring-die biomass pelletizing press specifically engineered to handle the unique characteristics of Miscanthus—namely, its long fibers, low bulk density, and tendency to bridge or clog during feeding. It serves as the core unit for compressing pulverized and dried Miscanthus raw material into cylindrical pellets. Equipped with a forced feeding mechanism, an anti-bridging hopper, a conditioning unit, a ring-die and roller assembly, and a cutting system, the press can operate as a standalone unit or be integrated into a complete production line. It produces Miscanthus pellets in sizes ranging from 6 to 12 mm, suitable for use as either biomass fuel or animal feed.
Working Principle
The pre-treated, shredded Miscanthus (with a moisture content controlled at 10–15%) is uniformly fed into the pelletizing chamber via a forced feeding system. The rotation of the ring die drives the synchronous rotation of the rollers, drawing the material into the wedge-shaped compression zone between the die and the rollers; under mechanical pressure, the fibers are compressed and interlocked, forcing them into the die holes to form pellets. As compression continues, cylindrical Miscanthus pellets are continuously extruded from the outer holes of the ring die; an adjustable cutter at the rear of the chamber cuts the strands to the desired length. The finished pellets are then discharged and proceed to cooling and screening stages to complete the process—a purely physical extrusion method requiring no binders.
