Brief Introduction

TONY large galvanized hydraulic storage silo serves as a core piece of equipment for upstream storage and automatic feeding in complete biomass pellet production lines. It is primarily designed for the buffer storage and continuous, metered feeding of lightweight, loose biomass materials such as sawdust, wood shavings, chopped straw, palm fibers, and bark.

Featuring a hot-dip galvanized body and a hydraulic material-agitating mechanism,TONY large galvanized hydraulic storage silo effectively addresses common industry challenges—such as material bridging, arching, and clogging—associated with biomass feedstocks. It replaces traditional, simple hoppers to ensure stable, automated material supply and is widely used in biomass pellet production lines of all scales.

Large Galvanized Hydraulic Silo

Working Principle

The large-scale galvanized hydraulic silo functions as a buffer storage unit combined with a hydraulic active arch-breaking and metered feeding system; it is specifically designed to handle lightweight biomass feedstocks—such as wood chips and straw—that are prone to bridging and material clumping.

Material is first stored in the silo body to serve as a buffer; a hydraulically driven bottom agitation mechanism then moves back and forth to actively break up any material arches, ensuring a continuous and uniform downward flow.

Finally, the material is conveyed from the bottom discharge outlet to the pellet mill, enabling stable, continuous feeding for the production line.

Main Parts

Large Galvanized Hydraulic Silo

1.Hot-Dip Galvanized Silo Body

Constructed from thickened steel plate with a comprehensive hot-dip galvanized finish (Z275 g/m²), offering excellent corrosion and rust resistance suitable for humid wood chip environments and outdoor workshop settings. It features a modular, sectional assembly design for convenient long-distance transport and on-site installation. The square silo body offers customizable capacity and includes designated ports for material intake, dust extraction, and explosion relief/venting, as well as a side access door for easy material cleanout and maintenance.

2.Hydraulic Material Discharging Mechanism

The silo floor is equipped with a hydraulically driven rake or reciprocating pusher mechanism, powered by an independent hydraulic station that drives the cylinder in a reciprocating motion. Mechanical agitation actively breaks up material arches at the source, preventing bridging or clogging and ensuring uniform, stable discharge. The hydraulic system includes overload protection; it automatically releases pressure if a jam occurs due to hard objects, thereby safeguarding the equipment.

3.Load-Bearing Base Frame

Features a heavy-duty welded structural steel base with high load-bearing capacity. Designed for floor-mounted installation, it eliminates the need for excavation or pits, thereby reducing civil engineering costs and shortening the project timeline.

4.Discharge Assembly

The bottom discharge outlet connects to screw or belt conveyors and supports single or multi-station discharge, allowing a single silo to feed 1 to 4 pellet mills simultaneously.

5.Electrical and Auxiliary Systems

Equipped with material level switches (for high and low-level detection) that enable interlocked start/stop operations with upstream grinders and downstream pellet mills. The hydraulic station includes temperature control and oil filtration components to ensure stable, continuous operation over long periods.

Working Process

Large Galvanized Hydraulic Silo

1.Material Feeding and Storage

Pre-shredded biomass feedstock is conveyed via belt or screw conveyors through the top inlet into the storage silo. The silo features a dedicated dust extraction port to capture dust generated during the filling process. High and low-level switches monitor material levels in real-time: a "full" signal halts upstream feeding, while a "low" signal automatically triggers replenishment.

2.Material Bridging (Industry Pain Point)

Loose materials like sawdust, wood shavings, and palm fibers tend to interlock upon accumulation, forming stable "material arches" in the middle of the silo. These suspended arches block the flow of material below, causing supply interruptions and production line shutdowns—a major drawback of standard hoppers.

3.Hydraulic Arch-Breaking and Raking (Core Operation)

A standalone hydraulic station supplies pressurized oil to drive cylinders, which actuate a bottom-mounted raking or pushing mechanism in a reciprocating linear motion.

This mechanism continuously agitates the bottom layer of material, directly disrupting the structural integrity of any arches and breaking them apart from below to prevent clogging.

The hydraulic system includes overload protection: if hard objects (such as stones or metal) jam the mechanism, the system automatically relieves pressure as oil pressure rises, thereby protecting the cylinders and frame from damage.

4.Uniform Discharge and Conveying

Once agitated, the material falls evenly through the bottom discharge outlet under its own weight. The outlet connects to screw or belt conveyors—supporting single or multi-point distribution—to transport the material to the main pelletizing unit.

5.Interlocked Automatic Control

Material level signals are linked with upstream feeding equipment and downstream pelletizers, enabling automatic start/stop operation of the entire supply system and reducing the need for manual monitoring. The silo features a sealed, hot-dip galvanized structure to prevent dust leakage.

Model Selection Key Points

Large Galvanized Hydraulic Silo

1.Calculate silo capacity based on the production line's hourly output; a 30–60 minute raw material buffer is recommended to avoid frequent refilling. For lightweight, bulky materials, prioritize silos with larger volumes.

2.Specify the galvanizing process: Hot-dip galvanizing (Z275) is preferred; cold galvanizing offers poor corrosion resistance and is unsuitable for long-term exposure to sawdust.

3.Determine the number of discharge stations based on the number of pellet mills; select a multi-station model for parallel production across multiple machines.

4.Given the sawdust-laden environment, it is recommended to equip the system with dust collection and explosion-proof pressure relief components to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

5.Verify site conditions: Check factory ceiling height and floor load-bearing capacity to determine if a custom silo height is required.
