Brief Introduction
TONY Galvanized Drum Screener is a low-speed rotating screening device featuring a drum treated with a hot-dip galvanized anti-corrosion coating; it serves as a core sorting component in the pre-treatment stage of biomass pellet production lines. It primarily classifies and screens pulverized materials—such as sawdust, wood chips, and chopped straw—separating out oversized particles, wood chunks, and impurities for return to the pulverizer for re-processing, while allowing qualified fine material to pass to the subsequent pelletizing stage.
Compared to standard painted drum screens, the galvanized drum screener offers superior resistance to corrosion from organic acids found in sawdust and from moisture, making it suitable for humid workshop environments and outdoor operations. Furthermore, compared to vibrating screens, the rotary drum's tumbling action prevents screen clogging and offers greater adaptability to loose, slightly moist biomass materials.

Working Principle
In simple terms, material enters an inclined, rotating galvanized drum; the rotation of the drum and the action of internal lifting plates facilitate classification. Fine material passes through the screen to the next processing stage, while large impurities are discharged from the tail end for re-crushing, thereby completing the raw material sorting process. The galvanized drum screen is a low-speed, rotating screening device installed at an incline. A motor and gearbox drive the slow rotation of the galvanized drum, into which material is fed at the inlet. Inside, lifting plates continuously scoop up and tumble the material; fine, compliant material falls through the screen mesh—becoming the screened product—and is conveyed to a storage bin. | ![]() |
Large wood chunks, incompletely crushed coarse material, and impurities move along the drum's incline toward the discharge end; they are then expelled from the tail and returned to the crusher for further processing.
Continuous tumbling of the material minimizes fiber buildup and screen clogging. An optional comb-tooth cleaning mechanism can be installed to continuously clear wood fibers lodged in the screen apertures, ensuring consistent screening efficiency. The drum features a hot-dip galvanized anti-corrosion coating, making it suitable for handling moist biomass raw materials.
Main Parts

1.Galvanized Drum Body (Core Component)
The drum body is hot-dip galvanized for corrosion resistance and installed at an incline; internal lifting flights ensure continuous tumbling and cascading of the material. It features a modular screen design allowing for aperture adjustments based on requirements and facilitating easy maintenance and replacement. An optional internal comb-style cleaning mechanism is available to clear wood fibers stuck in the screen mesh in real-time, reducing the risk of clogging.
2.Drive and Transmission Mechanism
Powered by a motor and hardened-gear reducer, the drum rotates at low speed via friction drive from support rollers. Variable frequency drive (VFD) is optional, allowing for speed adjustment to control material retention time and accommodate different raw materials and throughput requirements. Overload protection is included to automatically shut down the machine if a large, hard object causes a jam.
3.Heavy-Duty Frame Base
Constructed from welded heavy-gauge structural steel, the frame supports the drum via load-bearing roller assemblies, ensuring stable operation. The unit is designed for floor-level installation, eliminating the need for a foundation pit.
4.Enclosed Dust-Proof Housing and Dust Extraction Port
A fully enclosed housing with a dedicated dust extraction port suppresses airborne dust during the screening process. Side-mounted access doors and inspection ports allow for easy monitoring of screening status and screen replacement.
5.Multi-Outlet Collection Hopper
Equipped with two discharge outlets: one for qualified fine material (undersize) to be conveyed to a storage silo or dryer, and another for large impurities (oversize)—such as wood blocks and large fragments—to be discharged and returned to the crusher for reprocessing.

What Are The Application Areas?
1.Biomass Pellet Fuel Production Line
Serves as pre-treatment screening equipment following the crushing stage. Wood chips, shavings, bamboo scraps, and bark fragments from the crusher are fed into the rotary screen; qualified fine material is conveyed to storage bins for pelletizing, while large wood chunks, unbroken logs, and hard impurities are discharged from the tail end and returned to the crusher for secondary processing.
2.Wood Processing Industry
Used in board factories, furniture plants, wood chip processing facilities, and wood flour plants. It classifies wood chips, sawdust, and shavings, separating out large wood pieces, bark, and debris like sand or stones. It screens for uniform wood flour specifications suitable for engineered wood panels and further processing. The galvanized drum withstands the humid environment of workshops handling damp wood waste, extending service life.
3.Organic Fertilizer / Bio-organic Fertilizer Production Line
Classifies decomposed bacterial residue, composted straw, livestock manure, and garden humus. It screens out stones, plastics, and large undecomposed clumps to yield organic fertilizer raw materials with uniform particle size for the granulation process.
4.Straw Resource Utilization Projects
Used in straw briquetting, straw feed pelletizing, and straw biomass fuel projects. It screens crushed straw material to remove long straw segments, fibrous strands, soil, and stones, ensuring the stable operation of downstream briquetting or pelletizing processes.
5.Landscaping and Solid Waste Resource Recovery
Sorts shredded material from garden branches, landscaping waste, and pruned deadwood. It separates soil, stones, and long branches, screening out uniform fragments for use as biomass fuel or mulching substrate.
6.Other Supporting Applications
Classification and impurity removal for processing lines handling sugarcane bagasse and fruit shell raw materials;
Screening of small-scale sand, gravel, and ore (carbon steel wear-resistant drums are preferred; galvanized models are not recommended due to the high abrasiveness of sand and stone).

Features
1.Embedded steel plate. Before installation, the steel plate should be embedded according to the requirements of the equipment installation drawing, and the upper plane of the embedded steel plate should be on the same plane. 2.Determine the installation location. Installation of screen body. The installation position of the screen body is determined according to the position arrangement of the inlet and outlet of the equipment. | ![]() |
3.Install the base support. The two ends of the screen body are installed on the foundation support by hoisting, and the installation Angle of the screen body is adjusted to the design Angle, and then fixed welding is performed.
4. Connect the feed port and discharge port.
5. Connect the sealing plate of the lower support of the screen body.
6. Check installation.rotate the drum sieve cylinder by hand, there should be no excessive resistance or stuck phenomenon, otherwise it should be adjusted in time to find out the cause.
7. Lubricating injection. After the drum screen leaves the factory, if it is installed for more than 6 months, the bearing of the large shaft must be removed and cleaned before installation.

Model Selection Key Points
Material enters an inclined, rotating galvanized drum, where it is sorted through the drum's rotation and the action of internal lifting flights; fine material passes through the screen for the next processing stage, while large impurities are discharged from the tail end for re-crushing. When selecting the equipment, consider the following factors:
1.Match the drum diameter and length to the production line's hourly output; higher output requires larger drum specifications.
2.Select the screen aperture based on the particle size of the raw material entering the pellet mill; 4–10 mm apertures are commonly used for biomass pelletizing.
3.For moist sawdust or outdoor operating conditions, prioritize the use of a hot-dip galvanized drum.
4.For fibrous materials prone to clogging the screen, it is recommended to equip the unit with a comb-tooth screen cleaning mechanism.
5.Production line integration: Screened, qualified material can be directly fed via belt or screw conveyors into a galvanized hydraulic storage bin or a twin-auger circulating bin.
