Brief Introduction

Double Ground Screws, also known as twin-screw bottom feeder, is specially installed at the bottom of silos in biomass pellet production lines. It serves as an active arch-breaking and uniform discharging device for fluffy biomass raw materials. Double ground screws continuously stir and convey materials to eliminate bridging and dead zones inside the silo. It can be matched with galvanized hydraulic silos and double screw circulation silos, delivering stable and consistent feeding to downstream equipment such as mixers and pellet mills. The screw blades can adopt wear-resistant alloy, and the housing can be hot-dip galvanized upon request for corrosion resistance in humid working conditions.

Double Ground Screws

Working Principle

The Double Ground Screw system is installed beneath the storage silo, featuring two parallel screw shafts that rotate synchronously in opposite directions. The screw flights continuously scrape and agitate the material at the silo bottom, breaking up arches or bridges formed by lightweight, fluffy biomass powder and preventing material stagnation. The screws steadily convey the material to the discharge outlet.

The screw rotation speed—and thus the feed rate—can be adjusted via a variable frequency drive (VFD).

If hard foreign objects become jammed between the screw flights, an overload protection system triggers an emergency shutdown to protect the screws and the gear reducer. The material is discharged continuously and evenly, proceeding to the next stage of the process.

What Are The Application Areas?

1.Biomass pellet production line: Installed at the bottom of the galvanized hydraulic silo and double auger circulation silo, it transports fluffy biomass materials such as wood chips, bamboo powder, straw powder, palm silk, and fruit shell powder to solve the problem of bridging and stably feed the materials to the mixer and pellet machine.

2.Organic fertilizer processing industry: organic matter powder and decomposed compost raw materials are uniformly discharged to prevent light bulk materials from arching.

3.Feed processing industry: Unloading loose feed powder to achieve quantitative feeding for the mixing process.

4.Solid waste recycling industry: transporting crushed agricultural and forestry waste and light bulk combustible materials for reprocessing.

5.Other powder processing industries: suitable for continuous feeding of other light and difficult-to-bond bulk powders.

Model Selection Key Points

Double Ground Screws refers specifically to the twin-screw discharge system (dual-bottom augers) installed at the base of a silo. Featuring counter-rotating screws that simultaneously break up material arches and convey the product, this system is designed for discharging powdered biomass materials and preventing bridging or clogging.

1.Match screw specifications to the production line's hourly output to ensure stable feeding.

2.Use wear-resistant alloy flights for abrasive biomass materials to extend service life.

3.Equip the system with a variable frequency drive (VFD) if adjustable feeding speed is required.

4.Verify the installation dimensions at the silo base to ensure sufficient assembly space.

5.Upgrade the overload protection system if the raw material contains significant amounts of hard debris.

Double Ground Screws

Double Ground Screws Common Faults & Solutions

1.Material bridging; uneven discharge

Causes: High raw material moisture content; improper screw rotation speed.

Solutions: Adjust raw material moisture content; modify operating speed; inspect anti-bridging components.

2.Auger jamming; automatic shutdown

Cause: Hard foreign objects entering the casing.

Solutions: Shut down and clear foreign objects; install screening equipment at the inlet.

3.Abnormal noise and excessive vibration

Causes: Loose fasteners; blade wear.

Solutions: Tighten bolts; inspect and replace worn alloy blades.

4.Insufficient feed rate

Causes: Material accumulation/blockage; screw wear.

Solutions: Clear accumulated material; replace damaged screw blades.

5.Dust leakage at casing connections

Cause: Damaged gasket.

Solutions: Replace the gasket; retighten the connecting flanges.
